Protecting the doll
Dark or new wigs may stain skin; see stains. For wig options see wigs vs implanted hair. Our wig maintenance guide has additional tips.
Wig types
| Type | Care |
|---|---|
| Synthetic | Low-maintenance; avoid high heat unless heat-resistant |
| Human hair | Can be gently styled with heat; more costly; needs conditioning |
| Implanted hair on head | Do not pull; detangle gently |
Detangling
Hold the hair near the roots, brush from the ends upward with a wide-tooth comb or wig brush, and work in small sections. Do not brush wet synthetic hair aggressively.
Washing
Use lukewarm water with a small amount of mild shampoo, rinse gently, press out water, and air dry on a stand away from heat. Remove the wig from the doll first to avoid wetting the head and skin.
Storage and fit
Store wigs on a stand or loosely in a bag. When fitting, avoid pulling at the skin and secure with wig clips if needed. Watch for dye transfer from dark hair to skin (dye transfer). Changing the wig changes the doll's look (head change, customisation).
